Lomak Light Operated Mouse and Keyboard

Home

Lomak is an acronym for 'Light Operated Mouse and Keyboard'. In 1987, New Zealander Mike Watling decided to move away from his previous career as an electrician to study for a Diploma in Applied Science at Auckland UniTec. His passion for disabled kids and awareness of the difficulties they faced every day in school led Mike (with the assistance of the university), to develop the Lomak keyboard. The prototype was launched in 2005.

The Lomak is primarily designed for the use of those who can't use a normal keyboard and mouse. The USB powered device is mounted underneath the monitor and is operated by a small laser pointer attached to a headpiece worn by the operator.

The Lomak was awarded the International Design Excellence Award in 2007. To find out more about this ingenious device, visit www.idsa.org/content/content1/lomak-light-operated-mouse-and-keypad.
